Kids with Potential

Aim High serves students from low-income neighborhoods who have demonstrated potential. We target students in the most racially polarized areas of St. Louis. The median household income for the neighborhoods we serve ranges from $8,743 to $19,947. Aim High maintains a partnership with elementary schools in these areas, including schools in the Wellston, Maplewood / Richmond Heights, and St. Louis City school districts. (see participating schools)
Participant Selection The selection process for the initial Aim High program is based on a student application, a teacher recommendation, and the principal's approval. Students who score 70% or higher on a standard test (e.g. MMAT or CAT), maintain a B average, and maintain strong attendance are recommended by the teacher. Recommended students complete an application in which they describe their extracurricular activities, career goals, and general interests. Parents also complete a portion of the application.
The selection process is designed to be a partnership between student, parent, and teacher. We stress the importance of letting schools select students for Aim High, therefore giving them a strong hand in the partnership.
